Discover the elegance and craftsmanship of the Uesugi Katana, a finely crafted tribute to the renowned daimyo Uesugi Kenshin. This sword, made from premium T10 steel, is perfect for tameshigiri, combining both aesthetic appeal and functional excellence.

Uesugi Kenshin, born Nageo Kagetora, was one of the most honourable daimyo of feudal Japan during the Sengoku period. His early years were peaceful and focused on study, until he was urged to challenge his ailing brother for leadership. Taking control and making strategic alliances, Kenshin adopted the Uesugi clan name and titles, achieving significant military victories. Known as the “Dragon of Echigo,” Kenshin implemented trade and agricultural reforms to improve the lives of his people.

Kenshin’s legendary rivalry with Takeda Shingen marked Japanese history. Their fierce Battle of Kawanakajima saw Kenshin’s innovative tactics nearly win the day. Despite their rivalry, Kenshin respected Shingen deeply, even sending him salt during a blockade with the message: “I fight with the sword, not with salt.” After Shingen’s death, Kenshin expressed profound respect, acknowledging the loss of a great rival. Kenshin then faced a new adversary in Oda Nobunaga.

Our Uesugi Katana series features a stunning etching of Uesugi Kenshin, inspired by traditional Japanese art. The 69.21 cm forged T10 steel blade is as sharp as it is beautiful. The fuchi and kashira are adorned with black and gold details, complemented by gold dragon menuki under a black cotton wrap over genuine ray skin. The matte black textured saya provides a refined, understated finish.
