Raptor Katana Shobu Zukuri  –  Handmade Performance Samurai Sword

The Raptor Katana Shobu Zukuri from the esteemed Paul Chen Hanwei line is a formidable weapon designed for serious practitioners and collectors of traditional Japanese swords. Engineered for high-performance cutting without compromising authenticity, this katana is inspired by classic battlefield designs, combining power, balance, and precision.

Optimized for Strength and Durability

Featuring a Shobu Zukuri blade geometry (sword with an iris leaf shape), the Raptor Katana provides a strong spine and resilient cutting edge—ideal for demanding tameshigiri (cutting practice). Unlike the more common Shinogi Zukuri, this blade lacks a yokote, resulting in smoother curvature and a cleaner, continuous edge.

Forged from 5160 high-carbon spring steel, the blade is differentially heat-treated to ensure exceptional toughness and edge retention. Whether you’re cutting through tatami mats or bamboo, this katana is built to perform under pressure.

Perfect for Martial Artists and Collectors

With its through-hardened blade, this sword can withstand repeated use and is an excellent choice for martial artists practicing Kenjutsu, Iaido, or Batto. It also serves as a standout display piece, thanks to its simple but elegant mountings that highlight traditional aesthetics.

Key Features:

  • Hand-forged 5160 spring steel blade

  • Shobu Zukuri geometry for enhanced cutting power

  • Traditional tsuka with genuine ray skin (same) and black suede ito

  • Elegant black saya (scabbard) with buffalo horn accents
