From the legends of feudal Japan, the name Oda Nobunaga needs no introduction. Newly designed by Hanwei, we commemorate this mighty 16th-century daimyo in steel rather than words. The 68.58 cm handmade sharp steel blade features a prominent hamon and hi, making the sword swift and light with a weight of 1070 grams. A beautiful curved symmetry flows from the 2.5 cm kissaki to the kashira.
The tsuba is a classic Hanwei design of Oda Nobunaga with exquisite details. The front of the tsuba bears his likeness and mon, while the blade side depicts two soldiers with yari subduing an enemy. The fuchi is adorned with a gold flintlock pistol and gunpowder bag, honouring Oda’s love for tanegashima firearms. A finely detailed depiction of Oda’s kabuto (helmet) is inlaid in silver and gold. The 29.21 cm tsuka is wrapped with green Japanese cotton over black painted same (ray skin), contrasting with the Nobunaga mon in silver and gold.
The deep green lacquered saya ties the entire piece together with the black cotton sageo and the buffalo horn kurikata and kojiri. Certainly the crown jewel in Hanwei’s new Generals Series, this katana is a must-have for any Japanese-themed display and the perfect match for the Oda Nobunaga Kabuto (AH2083).
